Construction for the two new Jurong Region Line stations located near Enterprise Road and Jalan Tukang is expected to be completed by 2029.
Construction works for two Jurong Region Line (JRL) stations are expected to start this month, and is slated for completion by 2029, announced the Land Transport Authority (LTA) on Wednesday (12 May).
The two stations, namely JS9 and JS10, will be located near Enterprise Road and Jalan Tukang.
LTA has awarded a $241 million contract for the construction of the two JRL stations to China Harbour (Singapore) Engineering Company.
The contract will see the company designing and constructing the two JRL stations and a “1.5km viaduct between the stations, over Jurong Central Park and Jalan Boon Lay”.
LTA revealed that the company “has been operating in Singapore for more than 35 years and has completed rail projects in Macau and Thailand”. Currently, it is involved in the construction of the Thomson-East Coast Line’s Siglap station.
The seventh MRT Line of Singapore, the JRL will improve connectivity in Singapore’s western part by serving areas such as Jurong Industrial Estate, Jurong Innovation District, NTU, Pandan Reservoir, and the future Tengah area.
Featuring 24 stations above ground, the 24km line will connect with the East-West Line and North-South Line with interchange stations at Choa Chu Kang, Boon Lay and Jurong East MRT stations.
Construction works on the line have been delayed due to COVID-19-induced factors such as materials supply disruptions and manpower crunch.
LTA said it is still finalising the revised rail completion and opening timelines and that updates will be issued in due course.
With the stations at Boon Lay, Choa Chu Kang and the Jurong area, another 60,000 households will be within a 10-minute walk from a train station.
“As key residential areas such as Tengah new town develop over time, even more households will benefit from the JRL in the future,” added LTA.
