The four stations are slated for completion by 2029.
Construction of four Jurong Region Line (JRL) MRT stations is set to commence this quarter, reported Channel News Asia (CNA) citing the Land Transport Authority (LTA).
Two of the stations, located within the Jurong Town Corporation (JTC) industrial area, are tentatively named Jurong Pier and Jurong Hill. The other two are Nanyang Crescent and Nanyang Gateway and are both situated within the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) area.
The four stations are slated for completion by 2029.
Two civil contracts, with a combined value of $526 million, were awarded for the construction of the stations and viaducts, said LTA.
The first contract was for the design and construction of Jurong Pier and Jurong Hill stations. It was awarded to a joint venture between local company SCB and China Civil Engineering Construction.

With a value of $263 million, the contract also includes the construction of a viaduct measuring 1.1 km between the two stations at Jurong Pier Road.
The second contract was valued at $263 million. Awarded to Hwa Seng Builder, the contract includes the design and construction of Nanyang Crescent and Nanyang Gateway stations as well as a 1.4km viaduct between the two stations.
The seventh MRT Line of Singapore, the JRL will serve five key locations in the west – namely, Jurong East, Choa Chu Kang, Jurong Industrial Estate, Boon Lay/Jurong West and NTU.
Featuring 24 stations above ground, the 24km line will connect with the East-West Line and North-South Line with interchange stations at Choa Chu Kang, Boon Lay and Jurong East MRT stations.
It was originally slated to commence operations in 2026, but LTA said this could be delayed due “COVID-19-induced factors” like materials supply disruptions and manpower crunch.
“The revised rail completion and opening timelines are being finalised and updates will be issued in due course,” it said as quoted by CNA.
LTA said the JRL will add over 60,000 households within a 10-minute walk from a train station. And as key residential areas like Tengah new town develop over time, LTA expects more households to benefit from the JRL in the future.
The completion of the line will slash travel times within the area. Travelling from Choa Chu Kang to NTU, for instance, will be reduced to 35 minutes from one hour currently.
