We await an exciting new phase in Singapore’s public housing with two significant BTO projects launching in prime locations of Tanjong Rhu and Holland Village. These two are among the seven developments slated for June 2024.
The announcement introducing the first BTO batch flats in the vibrant Holland Village after a long wait and fresh opportunities in the scenic Geylang River area of Tanjong Rhu stews much anticipation in would-be buyers.
There are also upcoming projects near the soon-to-be-built Jurong Region Line MRT station in Teban Gardens and Chencharu, a nascent HDB residential zone in Yishun.
Overview of the BTO projects
In a detailed update on 21 February 2024, HDB included plans for the second BTO sales exercise of 2024. We are looking at. approximately 6,800 new units spread across Jurong East, Kallang/Whampoa, Queenstown, Tampines, Woodlands, and Yishun. We should expect a diverse offering of housing needs from this selection as per HDB’s commitment to providing such.
Tanjong Rhu developments
In Tanjong Rhu, we are promised 2,020 units in the Kallang/Whampoa district. These flats are expected to garner a lot of interest mainly due to the potential views of the Singapore Sports Hub and Marina Reservoir. We will be seeing a mix of two-room flexi, three-, and four-room flats, with a proposed park in the centre of it all.
The larger units will also feature a comprehensive list of amenities such as a residents’ network centre, a preschool, supermarkets, shops, restaurants, and an eating house.

The projects above will benefit from recent regulatory adjustments that include infrastructure enhancements like road widening and increased plot ratios, to prepare for the population growth. Rest assured, the changes are sanctioned by the URA.
Holland Village and Queenstown site
Located near the bustling Holland Village and Buona Vista MRT stations, the development in Queenstown will feature 330 units of two-room flexi and four-room flats.

What makes this development particularly prominent is that it is reviving the construction of new homes in Holland Village, where the last flats were completed way back in 2012. Analysts speculate that the units in this project will be classified as a PLH.
Jurong East and Yishun developments
Along the Teban Gardens Road and Jurong Town Hall Road, there will be new offerings of 1,070 flats of a variety of household sizes. With the upcoming Pandan Reservoir MRT station, buyers and tenants will enjoy enhanced connectivity.
Over in Yishun, Chencharu will see 1,270 new units as a debut in Singapore’s long-term urban planning vision.
Tampines and Woodlands offerings
Buyers get to choose from 550 units located a short walk from the Tampines West MRT station. With Woodlands in tow, there will be a substantial 1,590-unit project put in place, though it will be a little bit far from the nearest MRT stations. Perhaps by the time the project has shed some light, we’ll see a more comprehensive planning for transport connectivity in the area.

As we approach June, the anticipation for these BTO projects continues to build. With a total of approximately 10,900 units to be launched in 2024, HDB is set to significantly contribute to Singapore’s housing landscape.
The upcoming October launch will introduce a new classification system for BTO flats, promising an even more dynamic and responsive approach to public housing.
