After the recent spike in COVID-19 cases in Singapore, Brunei has temporarily suspended its reciprocal green lane arrangement with the city-state.
Brunei has temporarily suspended its reciprocal green lane arrangement with Singapore, starting from 7pm on Thursday (20 May), until further notice.
According to Brunei’s Prime Minister’s Office, travellers who had already secured approval to enter Brunei under the green lane arrangement can continue to do so until the 7pm cut-off, reported Channel News Asia (CNA).
“After this period, all travellers from Singapore will be required to undergo self-isolation at hotel accommodation for a period as determined by the Ministry of Health’s risk assessment,” it said as quoted by CNA.
It explained that the decision was made as part of its continuous review of the risk assessment of countries affected by the pandemic.
Announced in September 2020, the Singapore-Brunei reciprocal green lane aimed to facilitate essential business and official travel.
The city-state also had similar arrangements with Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, Germany and South Korea, which were then suspended in December last year and January this year following a spike in COVID-19 cases in the respective countries.
