The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) and the Land Transport Authority (LTA) on Monday (30 November) announced the launch of the pilot tender for electronic vehicle charging points at public carparks.
The tender covers the installation as well as operation of over 600 charging points at more than 200 public carparks in industrial estates, housing estates, community centres and public parks.
URA and LTA revealed that the successful tenderers will be “required to install charging stations at their allotted carparks by the third quarter of 2022”.
“The launch of the pilot tender marks a significant milestone in the expansion of Singapore’s public carpark charging network,” they said in a joint release.

URA and LTA noted that data and insights obtained from the tender will help shape the phasing and design of future tenders, which are set to be issue in batches in the coming years.
In view of Singapore’s vision for all vehicles to operate on cleaner energy by 2040, the government is improving the availability of charging infrastructure within the city-state via a national electronic vehicle charger deployment plan.
In fact, the government had announced earlier in the year its plan to deploy up to 28,000 charging points within public carparks by 2030. Currently, there are about 1,800 charging points across Singapore.

“Bringing charging points to more public car parks island-wide will provide drivers with greater convenience and accessibility, making electric vehicles a more attractive option,” said URA Chief Executive Officer Lim Eng Hwee.
Aside from yielding significant environmental benefits, the wider adoption of electric vehicles will also improve liveability for all Singaporeans, said LTA Chief Executive Ng Lang.
“Coupled with incentives such as the EV Early Adoption Incentive and the recently enhanced Vehicular Emissions Scheme, the increased availability of charging points will help to encourage more vehicle owners to choose electric vehicles.”
The tender for electronic vehicle charging points is open until 12 March 2021.
